How to access Historical (1800s-1940s) mapping via the Digital Map Store

The Cassini range of Historical mapping (1800s to 1940s) is only available as a download based map product that enables a user to access up to 1600sqkm of the selected year of mapping (1800s, 1900s, 1920s and/or 1940s).

Windows PC

  1. Open Memory-Map 6 (if you don't have the software you can download it from here).
  2. Click Map > Map List  > Double-click on Europe Base Map (this is included with the Memory-Map 6 software).
  3. Using the map, scroll to Great Britain
  4. Click Map > Digital Map Store > Online Maps…
  5. Select the OS 250K Road Atlas 2020 map and click Continue
  6. The Road Atlas will now download
  7. Scroll to the area of Great Britain you wish to download depending on the product you have purchased (Scotland is only available in the 1800s range)
  8. Use the Route tool to draw an enclosed route around the area you wish to download
  9. Right click on the route that was drawn and select Digital Map Store
  10. Select Historical and then the year of map you wish to download
  11. Click Continue
  12. An activation window will then be displayed. This window will confirm the map being downloaded, the size of the area in sqkm and the amount of sqkm available within your account.
  13. Click Activate 
  14. The area will now begin downloading and displaying as the relevant mapping.

Mac

  1. Open Memory-Map (if you don't have the software you can download it from here).
  2. Scroll the World map to Great Britain.
  3. Press Maps > Digital Map Store
  4. Select the OS 250K Road Atlas 2020 map
  5. Scroll to the area of Great Britain you wish to download depending on the product you have purchased (Scotland is only available in the 1800s range)
  6. Use the Route tool to draw a rough route around the area you wish to download
  7. Press Maps > Digital Map Store > Historical and then the year of map you wish to download
  8. Right click on the route and select Route Operations > Download Enclosed Map
  9. An activation window will then be displayed. This window will confirm the map being downloaded, the size of the area in sqkm and the amount of sqkm available within your account.
  10. Click Activate 
  11. The area will now begin downloading and displaying as the relevant mapping.

Mobile Device (iOS/Android)

  1. Open the Memory-Map app (if you don't have the app then you can download it from the relevant App Store on your device or via the web-link here)
  2. Tap Settings (arrow > cogs on iOS) > Map Licenses > Sign In 
  3. Scroll the map to the area of Great Britain you wish to download (Scotland is only available in the 1800s range)
  4. Press Maps > Digital Map Store > Historical 
  5. Select the map you wish to download and the map will begin to download
  6. Press the Activate option at the top of the screen
  7. An activation window will then be displayed. This window will confirm the map being downloaded, the size of the area in sqkm and the amount of sqkm available within your account.
  8. Press Activate
